Who writes this

My name is Marin Krueger. I write every word here and I make every photograph. There is no team, no rotating contributor list, and nobody else with access to the publishing tools.

I have lived in Honolulu since 2014 and have been writing about coastlines since well before that. The interest is narrower than travel writing usually is. What holds my attention is the strip where land stops and water starts, and specifically what that strip does over a whole day rather than at the two hours everybody photographs. Everything on this site comes out of that one preoccupation, which is why the stories are long, why the same coasts come back in different seasons, and why so much of the writing is about waiting.

There is no photograph of my face anywhere on this site, which is a deliberate choice rather than an oversight. The subject is the coast. I appear in the writing because somebody has to be standing there and it may as well be honest about who, but a picture of the writer adds nothing to a picture of a reef.

How a story gets made

Every piece here follows the same working shape.

I go to one place and stay in it, usually for between two and nine days. I do not build an itinerary and I try not to arrive with a list of things to see, because a list turns a place into a set of errands. What I do arrive with is a tide table, a rough sense of when the light will be useful, and the willingness to spend an entire afternoon in one bay doing nothing that would look productive from outside.

I photograph across whole days. Dawn and dusk are easy and everybody has them. The frames I keep most often come from the middle of the day, when high sun makes water transparent and shows the shape of the bottom, or from the windy hours of an afternoon when a bay that was glass in the morning turns to hammered metal.

Then I wait. A story usually sits for a month between the trip and the publishing date. First impressions are loud and frequently wrong. Whatever is still interesting after four weeks of distance is generally the part that belongs on the page. Sorting four hundred frames down to nineteen and then editing those nineteen until they look like the light I actually remember takes considerably longer than writing the words.

Photographs are adjusted for exposure, contrast and colour the way any working photographer adjusts them, and they are never composited, relocated, or assembled from more than one moment. If a frame shows a bay under cloud, that is because the bay was under cloud.

What this journal is not

It is not a booking service, a travel agency, or a tour operator. Nothing on this site can be reserved, purchased, or paid for, and there is no checkout, no basket, and no price anywhere in it.

It is not affiliated with any airline, hotel, ferry operator, rental company, or booking platform, and it does not act on behalf of any of them. No commercial arrangement has ever produced a mention here. No place named in a story paid, hosted, or arranged anything, and no sponsor sees a draft before a reader does.

It is not a safety authority. The field notes describe how I personally approach unfamiliar coasts, and they are written in the hope that they are useful. They are not a substitute for posted signs, local advice, lifeguard direction, or an official warning, and where any of those conflict with something written here, follow them and not me.

It is not local expertise dressed up as authority. I live in Honolulu and I am a visitor everywhere else that appears on this site. Where a story describes somewhere I do not live, it describes what a careful outsider saw over a handful of days, which is a real thing but a limited one.

How the journal pays for itself

Krueger Travel is funded by the company that publishes it and by nothing else. There are no affiliate arrangements, no commissions, no sponsored stories, no gifted stays, and no paid placements.

If that ever changes, it will be stated on this page and marked plainly at the top of any story it touches, before the first paragraph rather than in a footnote. The Disclaimer records the position as it stands today and is revised whenever it stops being accurate.

The site carries no advertising as it is published. Should that change, any advertising would be labelled as such and the Cookie Policy would be updated to describe anything it placed in your browser before it was placed there.

Corrections

Corrections matter more on a site like this than they do on most, because the practical notes at the end of a story are exactly the part somebody might act on. Access roads close. Reservation systems change. A stairway that was open in March is closed by August.

If something here is wrong, write to [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]). Corrections are made at the top of the affected story with the date, not folded quietly into the text. Small typographical fixes are made without a note. Anything that changes what a reader might do gets the note.

Why the publisher has a different name

The journal is called Krueger Travel because that is the domain and the masthead. The company that publishes it is called Krueger Editions LLC, and the two names differ on purpose.

There are existing, unrelated travel businesses in other states operating under names close to Krueger Travel. None of them has any connection to this journal, and naming the publishing company after them would be both confusing and unfair to businesses that were there first. Krueger Editions LLC is the legal publisher, it is the entity named in the Terms of Use and the Privacy Policy, and it is the name that appears in the footer of every page.

The state registration number is deliberately not printed here. Hawaii issues file numbers from a running sequence, which means any plausible looking number belongs to somebody else's company, and publishing one would be worse than publishing none. The filing office, formation date, tax identifier and registered agent above are enough to identify the publisher, and anything further can be requested at the address on the Contact page.

A short note on the name

Krueger is a family name, not a brand invented for a website. The journal started as a folder of notes I kept for myself between 2011 and 2019, and when it eventually became a public thing it kept the only name it had ever had. That is the entire origin story and there is no better one.
